Assalamu `alaikum wr.wb.
Honorable protocol, Honorable orators, And my loving brothers,
Bismillahirrahmanirohiim,
Alhamdulillahi nasta`inuhu wa nastagfiruhu wa naudzu billahi min syururi anfusina wa min sayyiati amalina man yahdillahu falaa mudhilla lahu, wa man yudlil falaa hadiya lahu.
Asyhadu an laa ilaha ilAllahu wahdahu laa syarika lahu wa asyhadu anna sayyidana Muhammadan `abduhu wa rosuluhu laa nabiya badahu. Allahumma soli wa salim `ala sayyida Muhammadin wa `ala alihi wa sohbihi wa man tabiahu ila yaumil qiyamah…
All praise be to Allah, him alone we ask for help. Him alone we seek forgiveness, we seek refuge in Allah from evils of our selves and from evils of our deeds. He whom Allah guided for him there is no misleader. He whom Allah sent astray, from him there is no guide.
I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is his servant and his messenger. Yaa Allah, send blessings and salution on our prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him) his family and his desciples.
And I here respectfully offer my words gratitude to the protocol who provide a valuable occasion for me to present a speech in English entitled :
Always Say Assalamu `Alaikum With Friends
Dear muslim brothers…
Firstly, I want to ask you: “do you know the history of the Islamic greeting?” “What is the history of the Islamic greeting, when did it start, and who was the one who chose it?”
Lets see what the anwer is …
Dear muslim brothers…
Imams Bukhari and Muslim reported that our prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him) said: "When Allah created Adam he told him to go and say Assalamu Alikum to a group of Angels and listen to their reply. It is your greeting and the greeting of your descendants. Adam went and said: Assalamu Alikum they said Assalamu Alikum Wa Rahmatulah."
The complete form for the Islamic greeting is Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatulah Wa Barakatuh meaning peace, mercy, and blessings be upon from Allah swt. This is because Imams Abu-Dawood and At-Termithi reported in a good hadith that a man came to our prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him) and said, "Assalamu Alaikum." The prophet responded and the man sat down. The prophet said, "Ten rewards." Another man came and said, "Assalamu Alikum Wa Rahmatullah." The prophet responded and the man sat down. The prophet said, "twenty rewards." Then another man came and said: Assalamu Alakum Wa Rahmatulah Wa Barakatuh. The prophet responded and the man sat down. The prophet said, "thirty rewards."
The Scholars (ulama) have agreed that starting with salam is highly recommended. And responding is obligatory because Allah swt said in surat An-Nisaa, (verse 86) :
• • •
"When a courteous greeting is offered to you, meet it with a greeting still more courteous, or at least of equal courtesy."
According to this verse Allah orders us to reply our friends who says greeting to us. As we can see Allah uses word fahhayuu in wich fahhayu word in Arabic language means fiil amar or command sentence, and kaidah ushul fiqih said: “al aslu fil amri lil wujub,” (basically command sentence shows an an obligation) or in our language: asal tina parentah nuduhkeun kana wajib.
Right, right, right … or Betul, betul, betul…..???
Dear muslim brothers…
Secondly, our prophet Muhammad saw (peace be upon him) orders us to do seven things and prohibited us from doing seven other things :
1. To pay a visit to the sick (inquiring about his health),
2. to follow funeral processions,
3. to say to a sneezer, "May Allah be merciful to you" (if he says, "Praise be to Allah!"),
4. to return greetings,
5. to help the oppressed,
6. to accept invitations,
7. to help others to fulfill their oaths.
Dear muslim brothers…
From this point, Quran and Hadits, we can get the first conclussion that to answer others greeting is a must and to say assalamu `alaikum is recommended or sunnah.
Dear muslim brothers…
We are muslim aren’t we ? …
And we are student also …. Right ?
It will be wonderfull if we can say assalamu `alaikum if we meet somebody. Student to the teacher, junior to the senior class, or be the best as the first man who say salamu `alaikum. Insyaallah, there will grow sense of respect, sense of belonging, and sense of love. Our school will be a happy place for learning and studying.
Dear muslim brothers…
I think it is completely enough for me up to this point. And before I close my speech there are three points we can get from our discuss today,
1. The first remember that to answer other`s greeting is a must,
2. The second to say greeting is sunnah, and
3. The third don’t forget that greeting with our friends, our techers, our parents, our family, our neighbour will make our life better and we will live in a happy place…
so, don’t forget to : Always Say Assalamu `Alaikum With Friends…
Thank you, thank you, thank you. And at last I say you :
Assalamu `Alaikum wr.wb.
